Real Estate Question & Answer of the Day - Multi-Unit Property

Q:  Does a buyer have to occupy one of the units if they purchase a 2-4 unit property?

A:  If the 2-4 unit property is being purchased as a primary residence, then yes, they have to occupy one of the units, but are allowed to rent out the remaining units.  They would need to get an investment property mortgage if they do not intend to occupy one of the units as a primary residence.
